JAMES YOUNG: MASTER OF SHIPPING (1989) ARTICLE

This is my earliest newspaper clipping from the Shields Gazette, 28th August 1989 in Janis Blower's well-renowned daily Local History column in the newspaper.

I was attracted by the photograph because 'James Young' had similar facial features to my grandfather, Alfred Ernest Young (1878-1961) and so I thought that he may have been one of my ancestors; this was not to be the case.

I have written several articles about the Young family of South Shields: Shipbuilders and Shipowners which will appear in the Post section in due course. The fact that he owned an Admiralty Prize, 'True Love' links to Part 5 of William Young (1788-1832) Master Mariner of South Shields and Shadwell (no evident family relationship) as he too owned a vessel of similar providence, 'Nancy'.
