TYNE BRIDGE POSTCARD (1928)

Postcard sent by Henry Young (1874-1960), to his brother Alfred Young (1878-1961) and his wife Cissy (Thomasina) (1880-1974) on the 12th October 1928 recalling their visit to see the opening of the Tyne Bridge. In the forefront of the photo, is the Swing Bridge connecting Newcastle with Gateshead, built in 1876.

Sent from 27 Simpson Street, Newcastle upon Tyne to A E Young Esq. 70 Roman Road, South Shields, County of Durham, England Dear Alf & Cis-Just to remind you 50 years hence of your visit to our City hoping you were none the worse for the hustle, and you arrived fit and well. With fondest regards. Harry

Unfortunately, Harry, Alfred and Thomasina had all died before '50 years hence' in 1978. However, Vera Young (1916-1986), daughter of 'Alf &Cis' well-remembered being carried on her Uncle Harry's shoulders as a girl aged 11 years so that she could see the King!
