JAMES LEWIS HATCH'S LETTER
James Lewis Hatch's incredibly decoratively-inscribed letter paper of almost 100 years for his music Shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania
Three pages were used by his father, James Cromwell Hatch, to write a poignant letter!
The third page of letter written to William Henry Thomas (1852-1930) at Snowdrop Villa, Mountain Ash, Glamorgan, Wales from James Cromwell Hatch (1874-1940), of 1008-21st Avenue, Altoona, Pennsylvania dated 13th July 1923.
William Henry Thomas's son, Thomas William Thomas (1881-1923), was killed in a mining accident in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on the 7th June 1923. It was James Cromwell Hatch, who acted in loco parentis, arranging for the burial of Thomas William in Altoona.
The letter relates to the anticipated financial settlement, for 'Roland' (William Rowland Thomas (1909-1994), Thomas William's orphaned teenage son living in Wales.
