MY PARENTS' WARTIME WEDDING (1940)

Vera Fenwick Young entering St Aidan's Church, South Shields for her wedding to John Sharp Thompson, 3rd August 1940; 80 years ago, today. Her father, Alfred Ernest Young is in the centre of the photograph.

Note the houses in St Aidan's Road with their windows covered in homemade lattice work to prevent damage to life and property in the event of the glass shattering inwards as a result of aerial bombing by the Luftwaffe.
